Middle East Insurance Co. is the second oldest Jordanian Insurance Company. It was established in Amman in 1962. The Company is wholly owned by the private sector. Shareholders are prominent businessmen, bankers, industrialists and merchants. In 1988 the Jordanian branch of the French Insurance Co. L’Union D’Assurance de Paris (U.A.P.) merged with the Middle East Insurance Co., as a result of which U.A.P., (now AXA), acquired 20% of the shares and a seat on the board of directors of the Company. Middle East Insurance Co. has a stable affirmed Financial Strength Rating of B+ (Good) by A.M. Best and Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating (bbb-) The Company writes all Classes of insurance needed in the region from its head office in Amman and branches in the capital and the major cities of Jordan.
